Bebo media platform
BEBO has a LARGE following in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and other parts of the world, including New Zealand. A quick glance at the site's "testimonials" page even yielded an entry from Papua, New Guinea! Besides the fact that this author didn't even know they HAVE computers in New Guinea (sorry if anyone is offended, but, it is news to this writer), what makes this so unique is the fact that the site actually originated in San Francisco, CA, in 1995.
BEBO is different from other "social networking" websites in that it is considered an "open media" site. This means that any business that is considered a "media company" (and this includes, but is not limited, radio and TV companies, recording companies, and the print media-books, magazines, etc.) can have access that does not have to be paid for and has few, if any, restrictions, to those people who frequent the BEBO website.
But, it does not stop there. The users have the same unrestricted, no-cost access to the information and programming that is offered by these companies that can be found on the website.
BEBO may actually be limiting its reach by referring to itself as a "socail networking" company. Since this term can, and does apply, to other websites as MySpace, Facebook, and other similar, users who had no-so-pleasant experiences with these or other websites may be extremely to visit BEBO.
BEBO has an "Authors" link. When this link is opened, one can find books on different subjects that are directly accessible to users. These are not just "e-books" on various, often non-fiction, subjects; rather, there are some fiction offerings on there.
It appears, upon a brief visit to the website's home page, that this site is actually geared towards those who are in college or already out in the working world. In fact, of those whose pictures, profiles, and other information was shown, it does appear that ANYONE under 18, and VERY FEW individuals over 15 frequent this site.
As this age range is considered one of the hardest demographic groups to reach, it may very well be that BEBO has actually found the "magic bullet". If that is so, and if what this author has seen is any indication, BEBO would do well to continue down this path, at least for the time being.
It may very well be that later on the services offered can be expanded to those who fall either below or above the 18-25 range; however right now it seems as though BEBO has definitely found the formula for success.
As mentioned earlier, BEBO does seem to attract those who are located outside the US, specifically, European countries, and some more distant locales. This may be another reason that BEBO is so unique. It does afford one the opportunity to connect and communicate with those outside one's "comfort zone", in what appears to be an easier manner than that of other similar websites.
As with any website, one should thoroughly investigate the content on it first, especially before allowing those under the age of 18 to visit the site. However, it does not appear at this time as though it has any content that would be of interest to anyone who was really not of college age. Neither does it seem as it would appeal to anyone who was very much past the age of 25. It does seem to have "found a niche".
